This route starts from the car park at Stockhill Woods, which is another great spot to take your dogosaur for a nice long walk. We had been to the woods a few times, and were always intrigued by the footpaths on the opposite side of the road that is all open rather than woodland, so we decided to take a look. This is a great walk of just under 4 miles. You will pass through one giant field that may be holding cattle. When we walked, they were lying down a fair way from us and weren’t interested in coming to investigate. There is only one section on the road for a few minutes. When you get to the top of the by-way that opens on to Nine Barrows Lane, the footpath you want is immediately on your right so you don’t actually have to walk on the road - the OS map is a bit unclear on that one. There was a little pool of clean water we found on the way out that you can see Sabre standing in, but other than that there aren’t any streams or anything so I’d recommend taking water if it’s a hotter day.
