Walking Route; Sydmonton Loop, Newbury, Berkshire

This is a lovely countryside walk near the small village of Sydmonton just outside of Newbury. For the loop we have shown in the photo, you can park in the lay-bys along the side of Ecchinswell Road, which is a small lane. The lay-bys are right at the top of the hill if you are coming from Burghclere way. The approximate post code is RG20 9NL, but this may take you to a small row of 3 or 4 houses. If so, with these on your left, continue along the road and take the first lane on your right - this is Ecchinswell Road. This route has some stunning views. At certain times of the year, you will encounter sheep here so please take care with dogs. You may also come across horses in neighbouring paddocks - which are usually pretty interested in us and will come and say hi! There are loads of footpaths round here, the path you start on is part of the Wayfarers Walk, so plenty of other routes to explore but this is a nice circular walk of around 3 miles. You can also park at White Hill car park near Kingclere and start the walk from there, which will add another hour or so onto your loop. Please be aware that both parking spots have been known to have thieves around, so don’t leave any valuables on show.
