One of my favourite things to do with my boys is take them with me for a good pub lunch, or just a pint - even better if we can do a walk beforehand, so everyone is happy! I have compiled a list of pubs I like that allow dogs in the area, hopefully you will enjoy them to!
Lock Stock & Barrel - Central Newbury - This pub is mega dog friendly, and they allow them anywhere in the pub. They have dog biscuits and water bowls on hand, and always give my boys a warm welcome. There's also the added bonus of a walk along the canal before or after you visit.
The Red House - Highclere - Katie and Simon who own the pub are fantastic. The food is great, and dogs are allowed in the bar area. There are a few nice rural walks in the area for those that would rather work up an appetite!
The Yew Tree - Highclere - The Yew Tree is quite fancy. You don't see dogs in there as often as some other pubs, but they do have dog treats on hand, and always give my boys a cuddle when we go there. Again, there are some nice walks around, and the food is sooooo good.
The Crown & Garter - Inkpen - We have been fans of this pub for years. The dogs can join you in the bar, and they also have a really lovely beer garden for warmer days. There are some good walks in the area, including Inkpen Common - which can get very muddy in the winter, so take your wellies!
The Newbury - Central Newbury - It took me a while to realise that The Newbury is dog friendly, but they do allow dogs in the bar area, and their food is very good - I can personally recommend their mac and cheese for any cheese lover!
The Woodpecker - Wash Common - This little pub is very welcoming for both human and dogosaur alike, and they have board games, which makes it a win from me.
The Carpenter Arms - Burghclere - There is a great walk through open fields and farmland round this pub - I use it regularly for my group walks. There's even little places for the dogosaurs to take a dip if they are so inclined. Head down Spring Lane which is less than a minutes walk from the pub for plenty of footpaths for you and Fido to enjoy.
The Catherine Wheel - Central Newbury - The home of pies and gin - what more could you want?! Oh yeah, taking your dogosaur along too!
The Plough on the Green - Greenham - I believe dogs are allowed in most areas of the pub, and it's opposite Stroud Green if you want to let your dogosaur have a run before or after you have your pint.
The Carnarvon Arms - Highclere - Technically 'Highclere' but more like Burghclere/ Old Burghclere, though it is very close to Highclere Castle. Beacon Hill is just down the road as well if you fancy a climb. Their mezze board is a-mezze-ing...
The Fox and Hounds - Theale - This pub actually won an award for being so dog friendly! They have dog beds and bowls, and often the waiters will offer your dogosaur biscuits when they serve you. They are right opposite Hosehill Lake, or for a longer walk you can head right out of the pub and walk towards the canal.
The Bladebone - Bucklebury - A lovely pub tucked away in Bucklebury. Dogs are allowed anywhere, and they provide dog beds. Also bedded in between loads of woodland walks! Make sure you pre-book on weekends as they get very busy!!
The Bull Inn - Stanford Dingley - Sister pub of The Bladebone, and just down the road from it. We have only visited once but they were very welcoming, and the chicken burger was great!
The Rowbarge - A little bit further out, in Woolhampton, the Rowbarge is right on the canal with a massive pub garden and a lovely circular walk from the door (you can ask inside for details). We have done a pack walk from here in the past, they are super dog friendly (though dogs aren’t allowed in the restaurant), and have a fantastic menu with local food.
The Globe - We haven’t been to this one yet, but have heard rave reports about how dog friendly it is, so give it a go if you’re in the town centre of Newbury!
Cobrizo Lounge - The Cobrizo Lounge is more of a restaurant/ bar than a pub, but it’s worth a visit. They have an extensive menu with options to suit all dietary requirements!
If I’ve missed off your favourite, then please let me know, I'm always up for a pub trip with the Jurassic Bark team!
